Nike iPhone app keeps track of where, how fast you run

Image
There was a time when going out for a run meant putting on some sneakers and leaving for a jog around the park. But if you need any indication of how far we’ve come, take a look at Nike’s latest Nike+ GPS app for the iPhone, released today on Apple’s App Store. Using the iPhone’s GPS and accelerometer, the app lets you track not only your pace, distance, and calories when you go out for runs, but visually maps your run routes on Google Maps, showing you where you went and at which exact points you sprinted or slowed down. Unlike previous Nike+ iPod offerings, no special sensors or kits are required for the app to function. A couple of features worth mentioning are voice feedback — which lets you know how you’re doing — and the ability to tap on the map at anytime to see how far you’ve come. iPad, iPhone, notebook, Netbook: A gadget glut?

by Brooke Crothers What is the tipping point for having too many gadgets? Well, it depends. First, let me count the ways I can be connected: a couple of MacBooks, an iPad 3G, an iPhone 3GS, an old HP tower, and, if I need it, a BlackBerry Storm 2 (though Wi-Fi access only for the BlackBerry, as I recently discontinued service). That covers most of what I use everyday. (And I know people that add a Netbook to a similar mix of devices.) Of course, I got to this state of excess voluntarily. Nobody held a gun to my head. That said, on most days--in myriad ways I won't go into here--this entourage of devices enhances productivity and sustains the computer-related hobbies I have. But on the bad days it's get-thee-to-an-IT-department--at least, that's the feeling. Compounding glitches can hit critical mass in minutes. Read the complete article on CNET.com

iPhone apps are legal for business use

There were reports filtering out that iPhone apps may not be legal for business use. Those stories are untrue according to PC World at least for users of the App Store in the US. Those original reports were from language in the terms for Sweden and the UK that said apps are for personal, non-commercial use only. PC World reports that the language from the UK and Swedish App Stores is not present in the app store rules for the US. The Apple TOS apparently places no limitations on the use of apps in the US. PC world figures that the terms and service may have been misunderstood. It wouldn't make much sense to have apps not be usable legally to business users.
